Quick Start
This guide will help you quickly master KeyTone's basic operations and core features.
Launching and Quitting
- After installation (see Installation), KeyTone will reside in both the taskbar and system tray.
- On the main interface, select your preferred keytone album (requires users to create or import their own) and adjust the volume for optimal typing feedback.
- Closing the window won't terminate the app. To fully quit, use the tray icon's context menu (right-click the tray icon).
Core Configuration
Volume Control
- Use the main interface's volume slider for real-time adjustments. The mute button (left of the slider) toggles global silence (synchronized with tray menu options).
- You can further adjust the slider's maximum attenuation range of the main page slider in the settings page for finer volume control and lower volume levels.
- The settings page also provides an additional volume control slider, allowing the volume to exceed 100% (use cautiously to prevent audio clipping).
- For even finer control, enable Press/Release Independent Volume Control in Settings → Main Page Related. This unlocks separate dB volume adjustments for key-press (down) and key-release (up) events, each supporting its own attenuation range and debug slider. Volume stacking order: global → keyboard/mouse split volume → press/release layer → random layer.
- A random volume variation option is available in the settings. When enabled, each keystroke plays with a subtle, randomized volume fluctuation for a more natural feel. An additional press/release random volume option allows enabling random variation independently for press and release events.
Keyboard & Mouse Sound Separation
- By default, a single album handles both keyboard and mouse sounds (Unified Mode).
- Toggle to Split Mode on the main page to independently select different albums for your keyboard and mouse. This allows you to freely mix and match sound styles to create your own unique audio combination.
- In Split Mode, the keyboard and mouse each have their own volume sliders (the global slider on the main page still affects both; please go to the Settings page to adjust independent volume levels).
- Fallback Behavior: If no mouse album is selected, the built-in test sound is used by default. You can enable the “Mouse Fallback to Keyboard Album” option in Settings—when enabled, if the mouse album is missing in Separation Mode, it will fall back to the keyboard album instead of the built-in test sound.
Language & Other Settings
- Set the software language — 16 languages are available, including Arabic with full RTL layout support.
- Configure whether to hide the window on startup.
- Enable or disable auto-start on boot (subject to the operating system’s auto-start settings and restrictions).
